The Art Of Ok Chickadee

Based out of LA, Angie Wang has managed to build a successful freelance career across the US with her distinct art style, which channels a healthy dose of surreal mixed with traditional Japanese Ukiyo-E art influences. If there's one thing I found really distinct about her art, it came down to her interesting use of value, avoiding contrast in order to imbue her pieces with a strangely dreamlike, hazy feel.

It's a curious technique, and despite her pieces being filled with colors, it's not used to draw attention to any particular area. Over time she's had a chance to work with prestigious publications including The New Yorker, Wired, Dark Horse Comics and Image, with a steadily increasing client list. Check out more of her surreal, colorful illustrations after the break.
